When I boarded my flight to Kenya, I thought I was simply traveling to raise money and awareness for SOAR Kenya Academy, a school that gives hope to children in Nakuru. What I didn’t realize was that this trip would change me forever. It wasn’t just about education—it became a story of breathtaking landscapes, unforgettable wildlife, and friendships that will last a lifetime.

The Heart of SOAR Kenya
SOAR Kenya Academy, led by the passionate James Yegon, is more than a school—it’s a lifeline. In a region where many families struggle to afford education, SOAR Kenya steps in to ensure no child is left behind. They provide:
• Affordable or free education for disadvantaged children.
• Nutritious meals so kids can learn without hunger.
• Safe classrooms that nurture curiosity and confidence.
• Technology and resources to prepare students for a brighter future.
James believes education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty. His dedication is inspiring—but running a school in rural Kenya is no easy task. Every day, SOAR Kenya faces challenges: funding for teachers, school supplies, meals, and expanding facilities to meet growing demand.

My Past Contributions
Before this trip, I had already partnered with SOAR Kenya to make a difference. Together, we:
• Funded fresh water wells, ensuring clean drinking water for the school and surrounding community.
• Fed the entire school for a day, giving every child a nutritious meal and a reason to smile.
• Supplied laptops, opening doors to technology and digital learning for students who had never touched a computer before.
These efforts were just the beginning. Seeing the impact firsthand made me realize how much more we can do—and how much more they need.

The People Who Made It Special
From the moment I landed, James had arranged for Tangus to pick me up. I didn’t know then how essential he would become to my experience. Tangus wasn’t just my driver—he was my interpreter, guide, cultural bridge, and friend. He made every moment effortless, even though I know he worked hard behind the scenes to make everything perfect.
He drove me everywhere with patience and humor—from my hotel to SOAR Kenya, to Nakuru National Wildlife Preserve, and eventually to Maasai Mara. He didn’t just drop me off—he arranged for me to stay in a beautiful lodge, something I never expected and will never forget. It was the kind of thoughtful gesture that showed how much he cared about making my experience special.

Three Days in Maasai Mara
For three days, Tangus and our guide Amos Keter took me across the vast savannah in search of wildlife. Those days were magical. We saw:
• A newborn giraffe, less than a day old, its umbilical cord still hanging from its tiny underbelly—a sight so rare and tender it took my breath away.
• A juvenile leopard feasting on its mother’s catch from the night before, a raw and powerful glimpse into nature’s cycle.
• Majestic wild elephants roaming freely, and even the somber sight of an elephant carcass, a reminder of life’s fragility.
• Countless other moments that reminded me why Kenya is one of the most beautiful places on Earth.

The Family That Welcomed Me
At the end of my stay, I had the privilege of staying near Tangus’s home. His family welcomed me with warmth that felt almost unreal—like I wasn’t a visitor, but a longtime friend returning after years away. His children were an absolute joy—bright, curious, and full of dreams. His son wants to become a freight pilot, soaring across skies just like his father soars in his mission to help others. His youngest daughter? A natural performer—dancing like a pro, radiating joy and confidence. Watching her move, laugh, and light up the room was one of those small but unforgettable moments that stay with you long after the trip ends.

Why SOAR Kenya Needs Our Help
Looking back, the landscapes were stunning, the wildlife was breathtaking, and the mission of SOAR Kenya was inspiring—but it was the people, especially James, Tangus, and his family, who made the experience truly extraordinary. My trip to Kenya wasn’t just incredible because of what I saw. It was incredible because of who I met.
Now, I want to help them continue their work. SOAR Kenya needs support to:
• Pay teachers’ salaries.
• Provide daily meals for hundreds of children.
• Expand facilities and resources for growing enrollment.
Every donation helps keep classrooms open, children fed, and dreams alive.
